Oregon State University students will have a new off-campus option for burgers and late-night hangs as Killer Burger opens in the Timberhill Shopping Center.
Ahead of its official opening on June 17, the Pacific Northwest chain hosted a private preview night on June 16, inviting Corvallis community members to sample the menu.
While the preview was community-focused, the restaurant’s long-term vision is closely tied to OSU.

From families with kids to longtime residents, attendees filled the space throughout the evening, offering an early look at what could become a go-to spot for students during the school year.
“Any way we can get students in the door and let this be their home,” said franchise owner Ryan Vargas, describing plans to offer student discounts and connect with Oregon State athletics.
Located just north of campus, the new restaurant sits away from the busier Ninth Street corridor, positioning itself as a destination for students looking to meet up, study or grab a meal without navigating heavy traffic.
The preview itself gave a glimpse into that potential. Families gathered around tables, students filtered in after hearing about the event, and the kitchen stayed busy serving samples of burgers and fries.
“We had our eyes peeled for a potential soft open, so we kept watching and were very hopeful,” said Corvallis resident Jenney Lee, who attended with her family.
For others, the appeal was simpler.
“A friend texted us in a group chat and had us at ‘free burger!’” said Ashley Caplan.
Beyond the buzz of a new restaurant, Killer Burger is entering a competitive Corvallis food scene that already includes student staples and quick-service options.
Vargas mentioned the restaurant aims to stand out not just through its menu, but through the overall experience.
“It’s more than just a burger here—it’s an experience,” Vargas said.
“From the quality of the food to the hospitality, it’s about treating our guests like royalty.”
That experience includes a range of menu options that students can customize based on appetite and budget. A typical combo meal—such as the “Smasher Combo,” which includes a smaller burger, fries and a drink—starts at around $10.45, with larger options available.
The menu also leans into bold flavors, including the brand’s signature Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon burger, as well as more traditional options for those looking to keep it simple.

For Vargas, opening in Corvallis is also personal.
According to the restaurant’s opening announcement, Vargas was raised in nearby Albany, and after managing the Eugene location, the new store represents both a business expansion and a return to the community.
As the restaurant prepares for a full influx of students in the fall, Vargas said the timing of the opening—just after the end of the academic year—will give staff time to adjust before campus activity ramps up again.
With a spacious layout, parking and a location just minutes from OSU, Killer Burger aims to become a regular stop in students’ weekly routines.
And if the preview night offered any indication, that routine may already be forming.
