Editor’s note: The Daily Barometer is looking into whether or not other candidates have had similar possible violations.
Dylan Perfect, candidate for Student Fee Committee chair for the Associated Students of Oregon State University election sent an email out to the LaborBeavs organization endorsing other candidates early this afternoon.
This may violate Minor Offense #3, as outlined in the student government’s 2025 Elections Packet, which prohibits candidates from endorsing other candidates. It is unclear at this time if a violation has been submitted to the committee by a member of the public.
According to Connor Chen, the ASOSU elections committee chair, any submitted violation would be reviewed by the committee, but they are a completely internal process.
Perfect said these communications have been approved by The Elections Committee. The Barometer has not yet confirmed this.
“This was sent out by my union using the default email signature for all communications from its Organizing Committee, representing the chairmanship of an independent labor union whose speech is protected by the First Amendment. It was not sent out from my campaign or by me directly,” said Perfect.
According to LaborBeavs’ Instagram, they are the electoral slate of Oregon State University Student Workers—an unrecognized undergraduate worker’s union at OSU. Perfect is the organizing committee chair of OSUSW and has acquired an endorsement from the group.
Perfect also stated, “Regardless, the rule you have cited would be classified as a minor campaign violation, which except with multiple repeat offenses, cannot be the basis for disqualifying a candidate.”
