Triumph at Goss Stadium, the No.7 ranked Oregon State Beavers, bested the Long Beach State Dirtbags on a rainy Thursday night, 2-1.
“You know how (we) play in Goss, even on a overcast, rainy day, you gotta show out,” said outfielder Canon Reeder on the win.
The first inning went scoreless for both the Beavs and the Dirtbags, with pitcher Eric Segura boasting three strikeouts early with an ERA of 4.37.
Suddenly, in the bottom of the second, after AJ Singer had walked, Cannon Reeder launched a home run ball far out left, allowing two quick runs to give OSU the early lead, 2-0.
“Honestly, all credit to the pitchers, they’ve been picking us up all year, offense was there today, we were catching barrels, but shout out Eric (Segura) and Kellen (Oakes) and (Wyatt) Queen those guys were there today,” said Reeder on the teams performance today.
Segura’s strong performance to start continued into the next three innings, lowering his ERA to 4.11 and adding two more strikeouts by the bottom of the fifth.
“Stuff was jumping, obviously the first inning falling behind. Fortunately, he has the stuff to battle back from that,” said head coach Canham on Segura and the pitching on the night.

“You can tell in (Segura’s) last inning, it was time to go to the next guy, but only giving up one (run), it’s not bad,” Canham added.
However, after back-to-back walks, Alex Champagne sent a ball far left and allowed Kyle Ashworth to steal third and take home to give Long Beach State their first run of the day, cutting the score to 2-1 Beavers at the top of the sixth.
Yet OSU would bend but not break, as the new pitcher, Kellen Oakes, would pitch to an ERA of 4.20 on the dot, and strike out one Dirtbag in the seventh inning to keep the score in favor of the Beavs.
Then the dagger.
Pitcher Wyatt Queen would come in relief and combine for three strikeouts in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
“Obviously, with what the guys are doing, we’re trying to get the best version of them on any given day, they have been going pretty hard. We are trying to get the best guys out there,” added Canham on the team’s rotation today.
The Beavers will continue their final bow at Goss Stadium in their second game against Long Beach State tomorrow, Friday, May 16, at 5:35 p.m.
