Alex Hyatt:
Oregon State University and Corvallis, thank you for trusting me and the summer team to bring you fair and accurate reporting this summer. It’s been an absolute pleasure to continue to tell the stories of those on and off campus.
With summer turning to fall term, this September issue was a collaboration project with the change of editorial staff, and we are all excited to share the hard work everybody has dedicated. From reporters, photographers, marketing, creative and the editors, I am very proud of everybody who has contributed to this issue.
I joined The Daily Barometer one year ago as a reporter and have loved the opportunity to speak with so many people and learn about things in this world I wouldn’t have otherwise learned. It’s been a privilege to raise student voices and tell your stories. It’s been the highlight of my OSU experience.
As I now depart OSU as a graduate, I’m excited to see where the next team takes the Barometer. I have full confidence in Editor-in-Chief Molly Hoglund and her team for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. Go Beavs!
Molly Hoglund:
My name is Molly Hoglund, and I am your incoming Editor-in-Chief this school year. My journey at OSU has been far from traditional, and to be transparent, getting this job was an amazing surprise.
When I began at this university, my goals were very different. However, pivoting in career plans and what I have experienced since has shaped my character and my education in ways I could have never imagined. Now, as a senior, I am prepared to step into this position at the Barometer and accept the potential of my future.
This year, I plan to follow in my fore-editors’ footsteps with the running of this publication. In an era ripe with corruption, misinformation and bias, my goal is to be different, be better. I plan to uphold journalist integrity to the absolute fullest, providing you only with reliable, important information.
I will pursue topics that you are interested in, and keep an ear and eye trained on my audience. My job will exist to serve you, the community, and the university, and I will personally try to make you proud.
I hope we can learn and grow together this year, and I hope you are excited for the journalism and news we plan to deliver to you. It’s going to be a fantastic year, and I cannot wait to be your Editor-in-Chief.
