Slide down the pole (if they let you), tour the fire station and learn about important fire safety behaviors at the Corvallis Fire Department’s annual Open House, Safety & Resource Fair.
This year’s open house will take place on Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 1, 400 NW Harrison Blvd, according to a press release from the City of Corvallis’ Public Information Officer Patrick Rollens.
This year’s theme is “Take CHARGE of Fire Safety” and focuses on teaching the community about rechargeable lithium battery safety and other fire safety tips.
According to the press release, visitors will have the opportunity to “participate in realistic firefighter activities, learn about cooking and electrical fire safety, watch interactive electrical power line safety demonstrations, fire extinguisher training, and interact with local area resources that provide community services after real-life events.”
This year’s Fire Prevention week which runs from Oct. 5 – 11 commemorates the devastating 1871 Peshtigo Fire in Wisconsin, according to the press release.
