The Oregon State men’s soccer team delivered a statement performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating Santa Clara 6 to 0 at Paul Lorenz Field.
From the first whistle, the Beavers controlled possession and combined smart movement to create opportunities in what looked like their most complete match of the season.
Oregon State began the game with confidence. In the 17th minute, midfielder Arnau Farnos opened the scoring with a composed finish after a good assist from Frank Cortijo.
The goal lifted the tempo and the crowd, as the Beavers pushed forward. Farnos stayed active in the attack and doubled the lead in the 35th minute, converting a penalty to continue his dominant performance.
By halftime, Oregon State led 2 to 0.
While the attack stole the spotlight, the Beavs’ shape without the ball stood out as well. After allowing seven goals in their last two matches, the back line stepped up, recovered quickly in transition, and cut out early crosses.
Following halftime, in the 63rd minute, with defender Iker Garcia extending the lead to 3 to 0 with a powerful strike inside the box after sustained pressure along the right side.
Just five minutes later, forward Tate Richards finished off a good assist for the fourth goal of the night, to further extend the lead. Garcia would soon strike again in the 70th minute, securing his second goal of the match and pushing the score to 5 to 0.
Finally, in the 81st minute, midfielder Diego Rodriguez delivered the last blow with a late goal, completing a commanding 6 to 0 victory.
“We would like to carry this win streak and clean sheet to the upcoming matches,” said Tate Richards.
“We conceded seven goals in the last two games, so keeping a clean sheet today is a great step forward for us,” added Richards.
The Beavers return to Paul Lorenz Field on Wednesday to face UT Rio Grande Valley.
