Oregon State University’s Holocomb Center for Military and Veteran Resources, along with other nearby institutions, has organized many Veteran Day events and activities.
From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 10, the Veterans Recognition Breakfast is hosted by the Beaver Employees Association for Veterans Success. The event will be held at the Memorial Union in room 109, with the chance for people to connect with veterans and listen to guest speakers. This will also include a ceremony celebrating the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
That same day, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., anyone can buy a ticket for $25 to attend the Marine Corps birthday celebration, located downtown at the Courtyard by Marriott. The address for this event is: 400 SW 1st St., Corvallis, OR 97333.
The formal event will start with a social hour, followed by a ceremony, dinner, and end with dancing.
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, OSU’s main campus will be closed.
If you’re looking for good food and company, Bombs Away Cafe is having a Veterans Day Brunch at 10:30 a.m.
Additionally, downtown Albany is doing a Veterans Day Parade starting at 11 a.m. The annual parade is known to be the largest Veterans Day parade West of the Mississippi.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Nov. 12, there will be a Veterans Day lunch and open house at the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) located in Snell Hall. Everyone is welcome to meet veterans and eat street tacos.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Nov. 12, for the first time, the Pride Center is hosting a veterans event. Director of the Holcomb Center, Wille Elfering said, “We’ve worked hard to reach out and build community with the cultural centers, because we both support the same people. It’s a great thing about the veterans community is every race, origin, orientation, religion, whatever, we’re made up of them.”
From 10 a.m. to noon, Nov. 13, there will be a suicide prevention event at the VRC.
Following that, welcome waggers will be in the center, where people can come in and have their puppy time.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14, the Holocomb Center will be in the Student Experience Center Plaza with their main Veterans Day Celebration event. This event will bring back their bouncy obstacle course with food provided.
At the same time, they will have their other event, Behind the Uniform, going on.
“Several of our veterans will bring their service uniforms that they used to wear and be there and be able to talk to folks about that part of their life and who they are today,” Elfering said.
Student Veteran Association President, Nikki Gold, reflects on how planning for Veteran Day events takes a lot of planning and coordination, starting mid-summer.
“We have the largest military-connected population in the entire state. We’re almost triple U of O, and that’s the second largest,” they said.
Student veteran, Morgan Zolyniak, plans on going to the Bombs Away brunch and going out to dinner with his wife on Veterans Day.
Zolyniak said, “It is a time to look back at all the people who have made a sacrifice for the country and the people in it, and time to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
Veterans and active duty members can check out other Veterans Day 2025 deals from Starbucks to Applebee’s.
They can also utilize a multitude of resources from the Holocomb Center in Snell Hall.
