Third-year guard Josiah Lake II is named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, after impressive play in the Beav’s first two home matchups.
Lake II, one of the few returning players from the 2024-25 team, contributed in a big way to the Beavs’ 2-0 start to this young 2025-26 season.
“It means everything to me,” said Lake II on getting the first points of the season for the Beavs in the postgame presser after North Dakota State.
“I’m really just proud of everyone; the guys, the whole coaching staff, for being locked in for 40 minutes, even though we had our ups and downs. But yeah, just super excited to get back in the gym and keep working as a group.”
With 10 points and eight rebounds, Lake II’s game one performance was solid. But his performance against the University of Illinois Chicago was what sealed his ticket to get WCC eyes on him.
An impressive 22 points, eight rebounds, and two assists greatly aided the Beavs in getting the win against the Flames.
Contributing a third of the team’s points on the night.
“I need to work on getting us into actions more,” said Lake II after the close win in the postgame presser after playing UIC.
“I know coach trusts me, so that’s something that I always have and remember. So when I make a play, it’s really just not on me, it’s (the) people around me that have the trust in me.”
Lake II and the Beavs will next be seen at Gill Coliseum once more on Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. against the North Texas Mean Green.
