Dan Rayfield, Oregon’s Attorney General will be speaking at the Corvallis Community Center (C3) on Wednesday, Nov 12, at 1:30 pm. The talk, titled Big Decisions, Unexpected Lessons, and Lawsuits for Oregon’s Attorney General, is part of the fall term line-up of classes for the Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL).
What is it like to start your new job by suing the federal government? Oregon’s Attorney General will describe how he hit the ground running after being sworn into office on December 31, 2024, pushing back on executive orders from the Trump administration and teaming up on more than 12 multi-state lawsuits. At the same time, he had to keep handling the “regular duties” at the Department of Justice, like consumer protection, public safety and child support. According to Rayfield, those first few weeks were a crash course in law, leadership, and keeping your inbox (mostly) under control.
Day Rayfield was speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives from 2022 to 2024. In the House, he represented the 16th district, which included Corvallis and Adair Village. He was elected Attorney General of Oregon in 2024 after defeating Republican Will Lathrop in the general election.
Wednesday’s talk is one of 31 offered this term by The Academy of Lifelong Learning on a wide variety of topics. ALL was created as a member-based community of eclectic learners in the Corvallis area. About 20 to 30 two-hour classes are offered each Fall, Winter, and Spring term. Most classes are presented in person at C3 and also on-line via Zoom. ALL is open to any adult, and those interested are welcome to attend one or two classes before joining as a paid member.
