The Oregon State Beavers earned a 64-59 win over the University of Illinois on Friday night at Gill Coliseum in front of 3,353 fans.
The result moves Oregon State to 3-0 and gives the team its third straight victory to open the season.
Gill Coliseum carried steady energy from the start, as fans settled in early and reacted to every key moment. The atmosphere grew louder through the second half as the Beavers continued to push ahead on both ends of the floor.
In the final minute of the game, the entire arena rose together to support the players as they closed out another strong performance. The crowd held its volume from start to finish, helping lift Oregon State over a competitive Illinois team.
Illinois challenged Oregon State with solid guard play and active defense in the early stages. The Illini kept the score close by answering Beaver baskets with timely shots of their own and maintaining pressure.
Oregon State responded with patience, relying on good spacing and steady ball movement as the matchup continued. The Beavers defended with discipline, limiting easy looks and staying composed when Illinois made small pushes.
Tiara Bolden led they way for Oregon State, as she tied a career high with 25 points. She also added six rebounds and two steals. Her poise with the ball helped keep the offense steady in important stretches of the game.
Lara Alonso-Basurto added 12 points and knocked down several key shots that helped maintain rhythm. Her confidence on the perimeter gave the Beavers reliable scoring when the tempo slowed.
Kennedie Shuler delivered a complete performance with nine points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Her presence on both ends kept Oregon State organized and allowed the offense to flow, as she tied a career high in rebounds.
The Beavers shot 52% from the field, finding strong looks through efficient movement and good decision making. Their commitment to contesting shots helped slow Illinois in the second half.
“Illinois played a great game. They made us earn everything,” Head Coach Scott Rueck said.
Illinois forward Berry Wallace scored 14 points and shot 50%, whereas the rest of the team was held to 28% from the field. Oregon State outscored Illinois 21-18 in the final quarter to secure the win.
“Our defense was really good tonight. I am proud of how disciplined we were and how hard we competed,” Rueck said. “This team’s willingness to sacrifice for each other stands out, coaching this group is a lot of fun.”
