Rutschman wins the Golden Spikes Award

Oregon State Baseball junior catcher Adley Rutschman won the 42nd Golden Spikes Award this evening in Omaha, Neb.

Rutschman is the first OSU Baseball player to be honored with the award, which is given to the amateur baseball player with the most noteworthy athletic ability and sportsmanship.

The award joins a list of other recognitions he has received, including D1 Baseball Player of the Year.

A switch-hitter, Rustchman finished his junior season with a career batting average of .352 with 28 home runs. He secured 174 runs batted in and held a fielding percentage of 98.8%.

Rutschman was the first overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft on June 3rd for the Baltimore Orioles.
