Student on the Street: Midterm elections

November 6 is right around the corner, so we took to the streets to ask students for their thoughts on the midterm elections. Here’s what they had to say:

 

Soraya Kohm

Second-year, bioengineering

What motivates you to vote?

“My parents say I need to care.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Honestly I’m not sure… little fish, big pond.”

 

Mark Andrews

Graduated in 2018, math

Registered to vote

What motivates you to vote?

“It’s a responsibility.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Overall, votes have a big impact, but I feel like mine alone doesn’t make much of an impact.”

“It’s important to be politically active and have your voice heard.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Voting allows me to have my political views take effect instead of just being ideas.”

“Social media, ads, and people talking about voting motivates me to be a part of it.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Pretty good impact because voting in the midterm elections does more good than the presidential election when it’s determined by the electoral college.”

“I want to see change in the coming years because I feel that past generations have failed us in who they chose to put in office.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Communally, we make an impact and it can inspire young people to get out and vote.”

“There’s a lot of injustice that needs to be addressed and voting is the easiest way to be involved. We can’t just sit around and do nothing.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“It’s a small impact because of the electoral college, but we have the right so we might as well take advantage of it.”

“I think it’s important to have someone in office who has the same motivations and morals as I do.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Not much because electoral votes make final decisions, but it is important for midterms. You should still do your part.”

“To have a voice.”

What impact do you feel your vote has and why?

“Individuals have more of a voice when it comes to decisions on bills.”

“I vote in my country to change the outcome for the betterment of the nation.”

“I feel like everyone makes a small difference but we have to work together to make an impact.”

“I want to make change for the better.”

“Honestly I feel like we have a pretty small impact.”
