Live Game Updates: OSU Football vs. California

As both teams look for their first Pac-12 win, Oregon State Football takes on the California Golden Bears today at Reser Stadium. California (3-3) is coming off of a tough loss against UCLA, a team with no wins. Oregon State spent this last weekend with a bye week in preparation of today’s game.

1st Quarter

9:20 OSU – 0, California – 0 | Oregon State punts to California four-yard line

California forces an Oregon State punt after converting two first downs on the drive. OSU running back Artavis Pierce had 28 total yards on the drive. OSU punter Daniel Rodriguez pinned California on their own four-yard line after the forced fourth down.

5:41 OSU – 0, California – 0 | California punts to OSU 22-yard line 

California started their drive with two first downs but stalled after passing the 30-yard line. After California quarterback Chase Garbers threw the ball away on 3rd and six, the punter Steven Coutts sent the ball back to the OSU 22-yard line.

2:39 OSU – 0, California – 7 | California quarterback Garbers passes for three yard touchdown

A 55-yard pass from California quarterback Chase Garbers to wide reciever Vic Wharton III set up the Golden Bears on the three-yard line. After that, a throw to California fullback Malik McMorris finished the drive with kicker Greg Thomas kicking the extra point.

OSU quarterback Conor Blount connected with wide receiver Trevon Bradford for a 24-yard pass on the first play of the drive. Three running plays later, the Beavers had to punt the ball away. 

2nd Quarter

9:25 OSU – 0, California – 7 | California fumbles the snap and OSU defense recovers on the two-yard line

Quarterback Chase Garbers started the Golden Bears drive down the field with a pass to wide receiver Moe Ways for 14 yards. Garbers continued to carve up the OSU defense in the ensuing plays with a 25 yard pass and a 20-yard run to bring California to the OSU two-yard line. A fumbled snap on 2nd and goal was recovered by OSU linebacker Andrzej Hughes-Murray.

6:59 OSU – 0, California – 14 | California quarterback Garbers 29-yard pass to running back Patrick Laird

The Golden Bears led a one minute and 12 second drive that ended with a 29-yard pass to running back Patrick Laird to bring the lead up to 14 points. The drive lasted three plays and travelled 40 yards to the endzone.

2:50 OSU – 0, California – 21 | Running back Patrick Laird rushes four yards for a Touchdown

With four rushes on the drive, Patrick Laird ran for 36 yards of the 59 yard drive. Laird ended it with a six yard rush into the endzone for a touchdown. 

1:26 OSU – 0, California – 21 | California cornerback Traveon Beck intercepts OSU quarterback Conor Blount

Jermar Jefferson began the drive with a 33 yard run to the California 49 yard line before three plays later Conor Blount threw an interception to Traveon Beck.

0:18 OSU – 0, California – 21 | California safety Jaylinn Hawkins ejected for targeting on OSU quarterback Conor Blount

Jaylinn Hawkins connected with Conor Blount’s head after Blount had already began sliding after picking up a 18 yard first down run. Blount stayed on the ground for a couple minutes before being taken off the field. Freshman quarterback Jack Colletto replaced him.

3rd Quarter

13:28 OSU – 0, California – 28 | California running back Christopher Brown Jr. five-yard touchdown

California’s opening drive started off with a 53-yard run by Patrick Laird and was finished off a mere three plays later with a five-yard touchdown.

9:37 OSU – 0, California – 28 | OSU turns the ball over on downs

OSU freshman quarterback Jack Colletto was sacked twice on the drive including on 4th and six, giving the ball back to the California Golden Bears. Colletto completed three passes for 29 yards during the drive. 

8:19 OSU – 0, California – 28 | California defensive end Zeandae Johnson ejected for targeting on Jack Colletto

On 1st and 10, Zeandae Johnson lowered the crown of his helmet and put it into the chin of quarterback Jack Colletto causing the referees to throw flags for targeting on the play. He was ejected from the game following the play.

3:40 OSU – 7, California – 28 | Jack Colletto punches in the first touchdown of the day for OSU

Oregon State’s Jack Colletto took the ball one-yard for the touchdown. Artavis Pierce was the set-up man after catching a pass for 4 yards to the one yard line for a first down.

3:39 OSU – 7, California – 28 | Onside kick by OSU recovered by OSU wide receiver Andre Bodden

After scoring their first touchdown of the day Head Coach Jonathon Smith chose to go for onside kick. The kick worked and Oregon States wide receiver recovered on the OSU 46 yard line. The drive resulted in a punt after an eight yard sack on Jack Colletto.

4th Quarter

9:44 OSU – 7, California – 35 | California’s Garbers passes to wide reciever Kanawai Noa 24 yards for a touchdown

After another three and out from the OSU offense, Garbers led the Golden Bears down the field and finished the drive off with a 24-yard passing touchdown. A holding call on the OSU defense helped give California a first down before the touchdown.

3:26 OSU – 7, California – 42 | Patrick Laird rushes 30 yards for a touchdown

One play after California converted on 4th and two, running back Patrick Laird outran the OSU defense for a 30 yard touchdown. The drive took four minutes and went 63 yards down the field.

0:20 OSU – 7, California – 49 | California cornerback Josh Drayden picks off Jack Colletto and returns it 54 yards for a touchdown 

On 1st and ten Jack Colletto stepped back in the pocket and attempted a throw but was picked off. The ensuing runback on the interception ended in a touchdown.
