The Corvallis Knights won their last game of the regular season 12-6 against the Portland Pickles at Goss Stadium on Wednesday.

The game was back and forth for the first five innings. In the sixth inning, the Knights scored four doubles back to back, shriveling the Pickles for the rest of the game.

With every player that ran home, the crowd erupted into thunderous excitement, shaking the stands.

In the sixth inning, the Knights’ first out came after five runs. Infielder Brooks Avery was a star player throughout the game, scoring two runs with two RBI.

“(The game) was pretty good,” Avery said after the game. “It’s always fun winning.” 

Although Corvallis led for most of the night, the Pickles stood their ground until the last half of the game, keeping the score tied at 2-2. 

It was an uneventful last third of the game with Corvallis scoring two more runs and Portland scoring only one additional run.

Over the three-game series against the Pickles, the Knights took the win in two games, but were outscored 27-26 overall.

“It’s just momentum, carrying it into the playoffs. Momentum is good, (it’s) contagious.” Avery said. 

Next Saturday, the team will be playing their first home playoff game against the Bend Elks. This follows their upcoming Friday playoff game in Bend. If the teams split the series, they will play in Corvallis once more on Sunday.
