It’s been over five years since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, but for many, the memories are still fresh.
During the pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci became a household name across the country, with many Americans viewing the longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Health as the face of the government’s response.
In Jan. 2024, Fauci’s memoir “On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service” was published, chronicling his career “to inspire (the) next generation of public servants” according to Georgetown University, where Fauci now teaches.
On Sept. 10, the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library will be hosting a Random Review of “On Call” from noon to 1 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room of the library.
According to the library, the reviewer of “On Call” will be Dr. David Grube, a family physician who practiced for 35 years in Philomath from 1977 to 2012.
“Random Review is a deep exploration of a selected book by a reviewer with expertise on the topic or theme of that book,” states the library website. “Sometimes reviewers cover a classic, series, genre, or author, but usually they cover a specific title. Whether you have read the selection or not, you will love Random Review!”
Random reviews are hosted on the second Wednesday of every month and have been a part of library programming since 1992.
Random Review can be attended in person at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library or livestreamed here. The recordings are posted on the library’s YouTube channel.
Future Random Reviews include both nonfiction and fiction titles such as “I Heard There Was a Secret Chord: Music as Medicine” by Daniel Levitin (Oct.), “Code Dependent: Living in the Shadow of AI” by Madhumita Murgia (Dec.), and “James: A Novel” by Percival Everett (April).
