A haunting atmosphere awaited students who entered the Memorial Union Ballroom.
Orange and purple streamers hung on the walls, alongside skeletons and pumpkins littered across the room. The big screen showcased movie clips of haunting images while Halloween music played in the background.
The Oregon State University Program Council held its Boo at the MU event featuring the Boobash activities and screening of The Conjuring, Oct. 29.
The event promptly began at 5:30 p.m. with students arriving in their costumes and scanning their student ID to get in for free.
Tables were set up offering free popcorn, candy and drinks along with various crafts for students to be engaged in.
Students waited anxiously in long lines to get their palm and tarot card readings.

According to freshman Jazmin Summerfield, the palm reading was scarily accurate.
She reflected how she only gave her name and said, “She kind of explained to me some situations that were actively happening.”
Freshman, Pragathi Panigatti, was able to experience both the palm reading and tarot card reading. According to Panigatti, the tarot card reading was confusing, while the palm reading was more straightforward.
“The palm reading was a lot more in depth,” Panigatti said.

The event encouraged the Halloween spirit as students showed up in memorable costumes.
Any student could recognize the Starship Robots that are commonly found roaming around campus, delivering to hungry students.
Juniors Hilary Payne and Anna Riedmann dressed up as the Starship Robots for this year’s Halloween.
Riedmann found one of the orange flags on the ground, separated from a robot during her freshman year, and wanted to make a Halloween costume with it.
“I’ve been meaning to do a Halloween costume as one since I found it,” Riedmann said.
Riedmann and Payne creatively fashioned two Eco2Go food containers as purses that added more dimension to the costume.
Anyone who attended the Boo at the MU event could attest to seeing Ronald McDonald. This costume, made by Freshman Romeo Kychak, put in the work from head to toe to bring Ronald McDonald to life.
According to Kychak, he bought all parts of the costume separately and did the clown makeup himself.
Kychak said, “I had to go and choose parts of it from different websites online so that it would be the most accurate. It took a few weeks.”
Kychak usually goes all out for Halloween and was dedicated to making an accurate Ronald McDonald costume.
The event provided students with a break from midterms and the ability to have fun with friends and make new ones. Kychak reflects on how attending the event was worth it, even with having a midterm the next day.
“Having clown makeup tomorrow at 7 a.m. will be worth it, for watching the movie and hanging out with everyone,” he said.
Before the movie started at 7:30 p.m., students got to play two rounds of Kahoot games showcased on the big screen. Kahoot had over 50 participants, where Halloween movie enthusiasts got to test their knowledge.
Everyone will have the weekend to vote for the costume contest on OSUPC’s Instagram, where the winner will be announced Monday, Nov 3.
