No. 16 Oregon State came from behind to defeat Mercer University 7-5 Friday night at Goss Stadium. A crowd of 3,899 watched the Beavers extend their win streak.
Bryce Hubbard delivered the biggest moment in the eighth inning. His double to left field drove in two runs and sealed the comeback.
Oregon State struck first when Hubbard drove in Easton Talt in the opening inning. Mercer answered in the third with home runs from Logan Shepherd and Chris Katz.
Jacob Galloway added a sacrifice fly to keep OSU close. Paul Vazquez then tied the game with a home run in the fourth inning.
Mercer took the lead again in the seventh after Dylan LaPointe hit a home run. The Beavers responded in the eighth to complete their second comeback of the night.
Dax Whitney led the pitching effort with 13 strikeouts. He allowed three runs on three hits, all coming from home runs.
Zach Edwards earned his first win of the season with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Albert Roblez closed the game with a scoreless ninth for his eighth save.
After the game, Edwards spoke about his mindset on the mound. “It was just a matter of time to get back out there and give everything I have,” he said.
“It’s been more of a mental thing, and I know I’m mentally really strong,” Edwards added.
Hubbard, Vazquez, and Talt each recorded two hits for Oregon State. The Beavers improved to 19-5 on the season.
