As Skweezy Jibbs appeared from behind the curtain of the LaSells Stewart Center theater, the crowd began to chant “Skweezy, Skweezy, Skweezy.”
“Aye, thank you for reading my hat,” Jibbs said after nodding his head, taking in the weight of the crowd.
Tim Savage, better known by his online persona “Skweezy Jibbs,” came to Oregon State University on April 15 for a showing of his mockumentary, “Skweezy Jibbs Makes a Movie.”
The showing was free to students with their student ID and included a free Q&A as well as a meet and greet after the show.
The event was hosted by the OSU Residence Hall Association, with the association’s president, Jada Tanner, running the event.
OSU was the first college that Savage decided to come to on his movie tour. OSU being the 10th showing out of 66.
“You may be asking why I decided to come to OSU first,” Savage said. “That’s because even though the Beaver’s tail is flat, it’s powerful.”
“Skweezy Jibbs Makes a Movie” is the story of Savage’s character, Skweezy, fulfilling his dream of making a movie with no filmmaking talent, no experience and no money.
“I thought the movie was great. It kind of gave me some kick-ass Napoleon Dynamite combo vibes,” William Fuentes, a second-year automotive engineering major, said.
Before the doors opened, around 50 students waited outside to see Savage’s film. At 6:30 p.m. students filed into the theater. By the time the movie started, almost every seat –of 1,200– was filled.
The movie featured many Portland locals Savage knew personally. For instance, during one scene, a Portland-based dentist going by the online username @drbradysmith displays and even wears thongs with “Floss Bitch” printed on the front.
“The dentist in the movie, that’s my actual dentist… all that merch is real,” Savage said during the Q&A.
Throughout the Q&A, Savage would regularly accent his answers to students’ questions with his character’s signature catchphrase, “Hell yeah!”
Halfway through the Q&A, Benny the Beaver made an appearance, crawling onto the stage and offering Skweezy a can of chicken that read “love is love” on the bottom.
“If it was a can of duck, I would get it, you know, like eating the ducks,” Savage said
Outside the screening room, Tyler Tronson, the film’s location manager and an actor in the film, sold Skweezy Jibbs shirts, stickers, and the iconic wide-brim hats.
Following the movie, about half of the students attending lined up for the meet and greet. Savage stayed until every person in line got a photo, signature or a fist bump. The meet and greet lasted until around 10:30 p.m.
“I thought it was amazing; I was laughing basically the whole time,” Trent Larsen, a first-year business admin major, said.
“I had no clue what I was walking into until the movie started. I was baffled the entire time…I thought it was quite a memorable experience,” Eden Jewell, a first-year biohealth and psychology major, said.
In regard to what message he would give to OSU’s student body, Savage said, “If someone gives you a bag of Nestle Crunch…be real careful where it came from, cause the last two times I’ve bitten into one of those, it had worms in it.”
