The Associated Students of Oregon State University Senate is set to convene on Tuesday, Feb. 4, for a session seeking to hear and vote on all fee bills which were previously sent to mediation last week.
The deliberations will focus on student incidental fee allocations and is scheduled for 6 p.m. in SEC 354. The deliberations will see the senate vote on multiple budget bills which impact campus services, including student government operations, recreational sports and student engagement programs.
Among the key items on the agenda are the votes on Senate Bill 84.20 through 84.26, which propose incidental fee allocations for various university units. One of the most significant proposals is SB 84.20, which seeks to set the ASOSU budget at $71.89 per student per term for the 2025-2026 academic year, this being a slight decrease in budget compared to the previous year’s fee. The allocation would fund student government activities such as sustainability initiatives and student advocacy programs.
Other bills up for vote on the agenda include SB 84.21, which seeks to designate $23.91 per student per term for the Family Resource Center, supporting student child care assistance and family support services. Along with SB 84.24, which allocates funds to maintain and enhance Memorial Union facilities.
Additionally, SB 84.25 and SB 84.26 will be up for deliberations, focusing on the funding surrounding the performing arts and recreational sports, respectively. SB 84.25 proposes continued support for OSU’s performing arts programs, ensuring student access to creative outlets and cultural events.
SB 84.26 addresses funding for recreational sports, which plays a critical role in student wellness, intramural activities and facility maintenance on campus. The votes on Tuesday will determine whether these programs receive sustained or adjusted funding for the upcoming academic year.
The deliberations come amid discussions about budget adjustments and student fee impacts, with some departments facing budget cuts while others seek increased funding for specific initiatives. The outcome of Tuesday’s votes will shape student services for the next academic year. Student wage increases have also been a recurring discussion point in recent senate meetings.
Students and faculty are encouraged to attend or provide input during the gallery comments portion of the meeting. For those unable to attend in person, the session will be streamed on Zoom. The agenda is available on the ASOSU website.
