A limited-edition plush version of Cedar, Oregon State University’s therapy and wellness dog, has become a hit.
The small “backpack puppy” plushies, which resemble Cedar, were officially announced on May 28 through the Department of Public Safety’s social media accounts. Sold through the Memorial Union ID Center for $15 each, all proceeds support the OSU K9 Team and the Public Safety Community Outreach Team.
The plushies were originally intended to be available for a limited time, but demand quickly exceeded expectations.
“Initially they were here for a limited time, but when we saw how fast they sold out, we knew we had to order more,” said Nicole Frantilla, operations supervisor at the ID Center.

Cedar joined OSU’s Department of Public Safety in 2022 as a therapy and wellness dog and has since become a familiar presence on campus through outreach events and wellness programs.
The popularity of the puppies has led staff to plan for continued availability.
“Now, we should have enough to have them around next year,” said Benajza Jones, office assistant at the ID Center.
With sales continuing and additional inventory arriving, the plushies offer OSU community members a way to support public safety outreach efforts while taking home a miniature version of one of the university’s most recognizable dogs.
