Many Oregon State University students will be saving less when they buy food on campus in the upcoming academic year.
The discount for using a dining plan at most on-campus locations is dropping from 20% to 15% for the 2026-2027 academic year.
University Housing & Dining Services cited “rapid and substantial” increases in the costs of labor, food and other operating expenses, as well as a desire to provide value to staff and customers, as reasons for the change.
“Our intent is that by reducing the discount, we will not have to raise menu prices as much as would otherwise be necessary,” UHDS said in an email. UHDS did not say how much menu prices would increase by.
The cost of dining plans is increasing for the coming year. The most expensive plan is $300 more expensive over the course of a year than previously and the least expensive plan is $150 more expensive over the year than previously.
All students who live in a residence hall, which includes almost all freshmen, are required to purchase a dining plan.
Students in Corvallis facing food insecurity can access support services at the Basic Needs Center.
